Project Details
World is a cryptocurrency project for proving "personhood" on the internet, addressing the challenge of online reliability that comes with the development of AI technology. Developed by Tools for Humanity, based in San Francisco and Berlin, it aims to provide a new form of identity verification on the internet.
A key challenge for this project is preventing unauthorized access and misuse by AI and bots, with a focus on improving the safety of internet users. Participants are also provided with a cryptocurrency called "Worldcoin token ($WLD)" as an incentive to contribute to network growth, promoting network expansion and activation.
Through this initiative, World is providing economic opportunities globally and building a foundation for participants to become part of a trustworthy internet environment.
World ID and its Mechanism
World ID is a new identity system for proving "humanity" on the internet. The mechanism provided by World employs Zero-Knowledge Proof technology, which allows users to prove they are real human beings while protecting their privacy. Using this technology, users can authenticate without disclosing personal information.
Authentication uses a physical device called an "Orb," which also verifies that the user is a unique individual, distinct from others. Amid growing concerns about misuse by AI and bots, World ID ensures reliability and contributes to the formation of a secure digital economy. Future applications in Web3 and other decentralized applications are anticipated.
Recently, "World ID 3.0" was announced, which is the latest version incorporating new features to enhance privacy and security and promote network expansion. With World ID Credentials, users can hold passport information within the device while proving their age and nationality without disclosing personal information. Additionally, "World ID Deep Face" for deepfake countermeasures and "AMPC" technology for data anonymity have been added, aiming for a safe and anonymous internet in the age of AI.
Worldcoin Token and its Purpose
The Worldcoin token ($WLD) is a cryptocurrency for promoting network growth and providing rewards to users. This token can be obtained by users acquiring their "proof of personhood" and utilizing World ID. Proof of humanity is particularly important in the age of AI, and $WLD plays the role of promoting it. Users receive $WLD by going through the authentication process and can access rewards and services provided by the token. Also, $WLD can be earned by contributing to the network, making it an attractive incentive for early participants.
With the release of World ID 3.0, users can now acquire $WLD early by using a new authentication method using passport information. Specifically, users can store passport information on their device and prove specific information such as age and nationality without disclosing other personal information. As the World network expands, $WLD plays a role in providing economic benefits to more users and promoting interaction within the global network.
The Role of the World App
The World App is an app for managing World ID and verifying identity while protecting privacy. Users can obtain "proof of personhood" through Orb authentication and store that information securely. The World App keeps information on the device, so personal data is not sent externally. By using this app, users can prove their age, nationality, passport ownership, etc., and this information can be presented anonymously to others without revealing their real identity.
In the future, NFC-compatible passport information will be stored in the World App, and its use in specific countries is also progressing. Furthermore, it will provide access to decentralized finance (DeFi), supporting user participation in financial services while protecting their privacy. The World App aims to provide a safer and more human-centric digital environment.
World chain
World Chain is a blockchain aimed at expanding the Worldcoin protocol and Ethereum's Superchain ecosystem to support over 100 million users. Currently, over 10 million people in over 160 countries have created a World ID, and over 75 million transactions have been conducted on World. The main purpose of World Chain is to improve scalability and user experience, providing fast, inexpensive, and reliable transactions.
World Chain also addresses the issues of wasted traffic and high fees caused by bots. It anonymously verifies user addresses through World ID and prioritizes gas fee allocation. This enables efficient network operation. For developers, it becomes a platform that provides access to a large number of on-chain users, forming an ecosystem that delivers decentralized applications useful for everyday life.
Funding Information
World raised $25 million in October 2021 from investors including a16zcrypto and Coinbase Ventures, $100 million in March 2022 from investors including a16zcrypto, and $115 million in May 2023 from investors including Blockchain Capital.
Airdrop Information
The Worldcoin token ($WLD) is the native token used within the Worldcoin ecosystem and is primarily acquired through World ID verification. To acquire $WLD, you must first install the World App, create an account, and then undergo iris authentication at a World "Orb" terminal. This authentication grants users a unique World ID, after which they can claim $WLD. Completion of authentication is required to acquire WLD, and the tokens can be received within the World App after authentication.
$WLD can be used for various purposes within the Worldcoin network. For example, in the future, tokens will be usable to access certain services and exercise voting rights within the ecosystem. Furthermore, like other cryptocurrencies, $WLD can be traded on exchanges and used for investment and trading.

Uses for $WLD
There are various ways to use acquired $WLD. While some people I know are holding onto it, many are using it in the following ways:
Converting to Japanese Yen
First, send $WLD to an overseas exchange that handles $WLD (here, Bitget). You need to open an account with Bitget beforehand. Search for "$WLD" on the deposit screen and select the WLD (World Chain) network. Copy the Bitget address and send the funds from the World App to this address.
To send to a domestic exchange, convert $WLD to ETH on Bitget. You can use the easy conversion function, or if you want to reduce fees, you can use spot trading.
Send ETH to bitbank. Select the "Ethereum" network on the bitbank ETH deposit screen, copy the deposit address, and send from Bitget. If there are networks common to each exchange, you can choose the one with the lowest transfer fee.
Convert the ETH deposited in bitbank to Japanese Yen.
Finally, withdraw the Japanese Yen to your bank account. This completes the process of converting $WLD to Japanese Yen and withdrawing it.
Purchasing Stablecoins or Bitcoin, etc.
Converting World tokens to Japanese Yen as described above is a bit cumbersome, so if you find it troublesome, it might be good to hold World tokens as stablecoins or Bitcoin and convert them to Japanese Yen later in bulk.
Using for Payments
Previously, the only options after acquiring World tokens were to exchange them for Japanese Yen or other cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum. However, now you can use them directly for payments on Amazon, Google Play, etc., or for in-game purchases without converting to cash.
